Hi,

July 1st is long gone but still no GCW available anywhere, in PDF nor paper. (or am I just too blind to find it?)

I've just recently found the awesomeness of Battlestations and have managed to whip my gaming group to the same enthusiasm about the game - and after googling around I'm convinced that I definetly want to add the the GCW expansion to the game.

So, any word on how and when and from whom this expansion might be available in any format again?

1.1 rule book is available separately which is a lot cheaper than buying the game anew. The changes aren't huge but I feel they are worthwhile.

Character actions are always completely resolved before the next character acts.  So even if you fire both cannons in one phase, guns power still drops after the first shot so the second shot is at the reduced power.

Am I doing this correctly?

Round 2 phase 1: My ship has 2 cannons and my gun power is 3.

If I fire 1 cannon I roll 3 damage dice and gun power drops to 2.
next phase I fire the second cannon and roll 2 damage dice and gun power drops to 1.

Question: If I fire both cannons on the same phase my guns power will drop from 3 to 1 but will BOTH cannons roll 3 damage dice?

Thanks!

Normally, the question won't come up whether to prepare to do an action or go on overwatch to assist, because different people will be doing those actions.

For example, and engineer will never assist someone else to pump and engine, because he's better at it than they are.  They might assist him (on overwatch or not) or they might prepare to assist him.

Two scenarios that make more sense are:

Round 1, Phase 6: Prepare to assist in pumping
Round 2, Phase 1: Assist in pumping, other person pumps

Round 1, Phase 6: Overwatch to assist in pumping
Round 2, Phase 1: Assist in pumping, plus your regular action, other person pumps

Same number of actions taken in both cases, but the first gives you a +1 to the assist roll.

Personally, preparing to assist only makes sense to me if you have absolutely nothing more useful to do.  An assist is only an 8+ roll, and preparing only gets  you a +1.  If there's anything more useful to do, you do it instead.

That's why preparing to assist might be considered to be a waste of an action, and overwatch would be preferable.

Just my two cents, of course, Jeff might have had different reasons.  But that's why I wouldn't prepare to assist unless there were nothing else to do.

4-Hull integrity checks on a ship you are on (only if the roll is failed). [p8]
5-The ‘Tricky’ Special Ability
6-Resisting Disintigration/Stun (since they are skill checks)
7-Satchel Charge detonation [p29]
8-Silhouette rolls for Cannon [p36]
9-Collision OOC [p45]

Hmmm. Still unclear, let me clarify my thinking  Smiley

Jeff said he didn't want to 'waste' an action preparing which infers using overwatch is NOT wasting an action.

possibility 1: Round 1,Phase 6, use your action to prepare to pump an engine next phase.
Round 2,Phase 1, use your action to pump an engine at +1.

possibility 2: Round 1,Phase 6, go on overwatch to assist a crewmate to pump an engine next phase.
Round 2,Phase 1, use your overwatch to assist, then you still have an action left.

Your crewmate must now use HIS action to pump the engine though so no action is saved, it's just a question of who takes it, you or the crewmate.  Better for your character but no benefit to the crew as a unit.  Also prepare is 100% guaranteed while assist is a roll.

Does this mean that preparing does not cross over from one round to the next but overwatch does?

Preparing means to think through what you're going to do so it's a little easier to do.

Overwatch means waiting for a trigger that might come at any time, and then instantly taking action.

Preparing will cross over to the next round, and so does overwatch.  But the two cannot be mixed, because they're fundamentally different things.

Using overwatch lets you defer *this* phase's action to sometime later in the phase or early in the next phase.  I could see using an overwatch to assist so that you can still take next phase's action, too (as long as it comes after the overwatch triggers).
